What’s on your to do list today?
Do you have a to do list?
I want you to not have any more to do lists.
Any longer starting today.
They only cause you pain.
Why?
Because it reminds you of all the stuff you aren’t doing and probably haven’t done for a while, with little chance of them ever being done either.
Most to do lists are just written procrastination, which could feel like reminders of your inadequacy.
It’s more like – Let’s see- here are all the things that I need to do but have no realistic plan to get to and will probably go to bed tortured by them one more time.
What’s the alternative?
Instead of writing down what you intend to do at some imagined future reality, why not schedule your actual priorities?
As the adage goes, what gets scheduled gets done. You’ll note that the adage isn’t what gets put on a to do list gets done.
So here’s what I want you to do today. This morning, instead of making a long to do list of your to do’s for the day, which is probably just a transference of all the stuff that you didn’t do yesterday.
Schedule everything that you will do in your calendar.
You’ll make several discoveries when you do this –
One, you’ll realize that you’re trying to do too much without the actual available time to do them.
Two you’ll be way more strict about what is actually important enough to go on your calendar.
Three you’ll actually do what gets scheduled.
Enjoy your productive day ahead.
