What is Fibromyalgia?

Fibromyalgia is a chronic illness that causes immense physical pain and debilitating fatigue. Classified as a syndrome, fibromyalgia is not a disease. Instead it is a condition that causes many different symptoms

Fibromyalgia isn’t well understood by the medical community, and from my experience it’s generally a label that they have been given. In a way this in itself can help and offer hope as the pain and suffering they are experiencing has at last been recognised.

The symptoms of Fibromyalgia are unpredictable, although one of the main symptoms is widespread musculoskeletal pain, with the chronic pain continuing for months and even years.

This pain affects the ligaments, tendons, and muscles throughout the body, so that any exertion or movement, sometimes even trying to sit or lay still causes immense pain. Typical comments from clients are that the muscles and sometimes their skin feels like they are burning, and they feel like they are aching all over; muscles feel sore, stiff, and overworked. Muscle twitches are also common in fibromyalgia, adding to the pain of the illness.

As the cause of Fibromyalgia is unknown, there is no clear cure, and as such the people that I’ve worked with have generally been prescribed high doses of pain killers and anti depressants to allow them to get through the day. Unfortunately this can mean they do little else, which can add additional frustration, anger and guilt, adding to the vicious circle.

Though chronic pain is the main symptom of fibromyalgia, it is by no means the only symptom. Among other symptoms, fibromyalgia sufferers can also experience sleep disturbance, fatigue, morning stiffness, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).

What if stress and negative emotions and our life are more a cause of fibromyalgia than conventional medicine believes?

Studies have found that people with fibromyalgia often have, or have had higher than average rates of stressful life events.

There’s evidence offered in the Biology of Belief by Bruce Lipton, PhD that shows how it’s the environment that can help create illness and disease in our lives.

What if chronic illness and disease is something that you can heal yourself from by dealing and addressing any trapped or unresolved emotions and issues?

So if that’s true, how does Hypnotherapy help me deal with Fibromyalgia?

The good news is that no one is born with Fibromyalgia, it develops gradually over time. However, from my experience, something happened to start this process.

My belief and experience, and I must stress that this is MY belief and experience, based on the people I’ve worked with, is that emotional energy can become blocked and stored in the muscles, joints and tissue. Through hypnotherapy, we work together to find out what the cause of this blocked energy is, and then neutralise and release it. When we release this emotional pain, your body gets relief from the pain of holding in the tension.

The initial key areas hypnotherapy helps with are pain management and pain relief, as well as improving the quality of sleep. Dealing with these initial issues of sleep and pain can help improve the quality of a persons life very quickly.
