FAQ

If you’re considering hypnotherapy or psychotherapy, it’s natural to have questions. This page answers some of the most common ones I receive. If you’re unsure about whether this is right for you, feel free to reach out—there’s no pressure, just a safe space to explore your options.

What is hypnotherapy, and how does it work?
Hypnotherapy uses focused relaxation and guided imagery to access the subconscious mind, where lasting emotional and behavioural change can happen. It’s a gentle, collaborative process that helps you explore thoughts, feelings, and habits in a safe and supportive environment.

Will hypnotherapy work for me?
Many people find hypnotherapy effective for issues like stress, low confidence, depression, addiction, and disordered eating. Everyone responds differently, but if you’re open and committed to the process, hypnotherapy can be a powerful tool for positive change.

Will I be aware of what’s happening during the session?
Yes. You remain in control throughout. Hypnosis is a relaxed but focused state—similar to daydreaming—where you can hear everything and remember as much as you would from any calm, therapeutic conversation.

What happens during a hypnotherapy session?
Each session begins with a brief discussion about your goals and any updates since the last session. Then, you’ll be guided into a relaxed state using calming language and imagery. From there, we work with your subconscious mind to release unwanted patterns and reinforce positive change. You’ll leave feeling calm, supported, and empowered.

How many sessions will I need?
The number of sessions varies depending on your goals and the complexity of the issue. Some clients see significant shifts in just a few sessions, while others benefit from ongoing support over a longer period. We’ll discuss a tailored plan during your first session.

Does hypnotherapy work for everyone?
Hypnotherapy is effective for many, but like any therapeutic approach, results can vary. Success depends on your readiness for change and the rapport we build together. If hypnotherapy isn’t the right fit, I’ll help guide you toward other options.

Is hypnotherapy better than Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)?
Both approaches can be helpful—it depends on the individual. CBT focuses on conscious thought patterns and behaviours, while hypnotherapy works at a deeper, subconscious level. Some clients find hypnotherapy more effective for emotional processing, especially when combined with talking therapy. I sometimes integrate both approaches for the best results.
