Trying to find a Hypnotherapist?
So – what do you look for??
Here are some pointers
♦Do they listen?
They may hear what you are saying BUT are the LISTENING? Do they show that they understand your issues ? Do you feel that they are asking the right questions and giving YOU the chance the answer? Not answering the questions for you. Listening intently and being open-minded, not making any assumptions and not being judgemental will show you that you really do care and are totally focused on them.
♦Can you see them wearing your shoes?
Do they show empathy. The dictionary defines empathy as the capacity to understand or feel what another person is experiencing from within the other person’s frame of reference, i.e., the capacity to place oneself in another’s shoes. Empathy is not a learned skill; it is something which is inherent, so see if they show it..
♦What do others say about them?
Other peoples experiences can be of great use – read testimonials, ask around. Look at their website, social media – there are many ways to get information on the therapist. BUT – at the end of the day – it is YOUR decision and we are all different so what works for one – may not work for another..
♦Do they keep up to date with new skills etc?
Training is important and most good therapists strive to continually improve and keep skills updated. Being proficient in a variety of methods is vital and enables the therapist to select the ones that work best for you. Flexibility is key; being able to switch methods to focus on what is best for YOU is paramount
